Video - What happens to my food and green garden waste?

The food and garden waste is mixed together at the borough’s bulking facility at the Household Reuse and Recycling Centre on Hornsey Street.
The food and garden waste is then taken by lorry to a composting facility in Edmonton, North London.
The material is placed inside in-vessel composters, where it is transformed into compost over several months.
The compost is PAS100 accredited, which means that it is quality assured, traceable, safe and reliable. Most of it is used by farmers, but some of it does end up on Islington’s parks and green spaces.
