Islington's new team of Street Environment Wardens are now out and about, offering a highly visible, reassuring presence on the streets of Islington. The Street Environment Wardens will be promoting civic pride and encouraging behavioural change around low-level anti-social activities such as dropping litter, dog fouling and fly posting. These factors can all have a negative impact on the quality of residents' lives.
Working to an ethos of "educate, encourage, enforce", the team will be concentrating their efforts in areas affected by anti-sociable behaviour. The Street Environment Wardens will be talking and listening to residents, and reporting street defects. They'll be able to assist people, such as rough sleepers, signposting them to services that can help them. They will also be able to issue Fixed Penalty Notices if people continue with anti-social activities.
Their high-visibility presence will allow them to work proactively with other departments and agencies, to achieve a greener, cleaner, safer borough.
