The Pollution Service monitors and initiates improvements in the local environment through the assessment of air quality, water quality, and contaminated land.

  • inspecting the borough for contaminated land
  • undertaking air quality monitoring

Fresh air walking routes in London

We contributed to a web service which helps people map out fresh air walking routes around London. The new online service (see link to www.walkit.com on the right) will benefit everyone but is particularly useful for people who suffer from respiratory and cardiac conditions, such as asthma, bronchitis and emphysema. For example, a brisk walk along a ‘low pollution’ route from Angel to Old Street tube station takes about 19 minutes and follows the less polluted Regent’s Canal. A more direct route taking in City Road takes only four minutes less.
