Islington Council is in the process of developing a set of planning documents, known as the Local Development Framework (LDF). Together these documents will set out our strategy up to 2025, along with detailed policies to make the borough a better place to live work and study. The LDF is made up of the Islington’s Core Planning Strategy – which sets out the council’s vision for the future of the borough, along with a set of supporting documents.
The Core Strategy has been through a number of stages of consultation during 2008 and 2009. In October 2009 we asked for comments on a final draft of the document called the Core Strategy Proposed Submission. In light of responses to this consultation the council is making some changes to the document before it is submitted to a Planning Inspector for Independent Examination. These changes will be incorporated into the final document submitted for Examination. From Monday 8 February until Monday 22 March 2010 you can comment on the proposed changes. For more information click on the Core Strategy link on the left of this page.
We are in the early stages of preparing two supporting documents which will help to deliver the Core Strategy called Site Allocations and Development Management Policies.
More detailed advice on planning policy is provided in Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD), the council has already adopted SPDs on the Nags Head Town Centre Strategy, Archway, Kings Cross and Urban Design. The council has recently adopted SPDs on Accessible Housing and Planning Obligations SPD . Information on all these documents can be viewed by clicking the relevant link on the menu to the left. The consultation draft of the Sustainable Transport Guidance note can be downloaded below.
The starting point in the new system is to prepare a Local Development Scheme (LDS). This LDS sets out how Islington intends to prepare its Local Development Framework. Click on the link below under Downloadable Documents to view the Local Development Scheme published in November 2008.
Note: The Finsbury Park Area Action Plan will not be progressed any further. Future amendments to the LDS will remove this Area Action Plan. You can get more information on this by clicking the Finsbury Park Area Action Plan link on the left of this page.
The council adopted the Statement of Community Involvement on 20 July 2006. This document sets out how you can become involved in the creation of development plans and the process of deciding planning applications. A copy is available to download by clicking the link below.
