Environmental Policy
Environmental Policy
Planning Services aims to continuously improve its environmental performance.
We will seek to do this via integration of environmental objectives into our
policies, strategies, operational performance and green housekeeping in order
to make a positive contribution to the local and global environment.
We believe that continuously improving our environmental performance will
contribute to better operational performance and a better service for the
public.
Environmental Principles
Planning Services will seek solutions to environmental issues, internally and
in the wider community, by adopting sound principles, best-practice and
innovation.
We will use this environmental policy as a framework for action and target
setting.
In achieving this we will follow the following environmental principles:
-
resources are used efficiently and effectively
-
materials are procured that are the least environmentally-damaging and
suppliers contribute to our environmental objectives
-
waste is reduced, recycled and re-used
-
pollution is minimised and limited to levels that the natural environment can
assimilate
-
biodiversity is protected, enhanced and promoted
-
energy conservation and energy efficiency are promoted
-
climate change issues are recognised and addressed
-
Islington's environmental quality is improved
-
the "green economy" is encouraged in Islington
-
accessibility and mobility is improved for all, via environmentally friendly
transport modes such as cycling and walking, instead of driving
-
communication with our stakeholders on environmental issues is open and
consultative
-
awareness raising and environmental training are provided
-
environmental legislation is complied with or exceeded
-
environmental performance and progress are monitored, reviewed, reported and
communicated
-
Planning Services will contribute to long-term sustainable development
