Islington faces a number of issues that affect our environment and quality of life. These issues are part of a global picture that threatens the world's natural resources, changes our climate, causes pollution and affects human health.
Islington Council is working in partnership with communities and individuals to find solutions and implement actions that will help make our borough more sustainable and contribute to sustainable development on a global scale.
Much activity is already underway in Islington thanks to the actions of a number of committed individuals, the voluntary sector, academia, business and the council.
Recent schemes include the Islington Community Environmental Scheme (ICES) and local events to support National Bike Week. The CARRA project in 2004 aimed to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in Islington and develop a local response to the problems of climate change.
The council will build on this work, as part of a shared mission to make Islington a more sustainable community for the 21st century - our Local Agenda 21.
