Conservation and Design

Conservation and Design

The Conservation and Design team are responsible for helping to preserve Islington's historic built fabric and encouraging good contemporary design throughout the borough. The team also looks after trees on private land and gives landscape advice.

Islington has a rich architectural heritage that is a unique and irreplaceable asset. We protect this by managing change in the historic environment through our advice on planning and conservation issues, and support through our grants and other resources.

We also seek to encourage high quality, appropriate modern development in the borough. We achieve this by working closely with development control officers, developers and architects and by producing comprehensive guidance notes such as The Islington Urban Design Guide.
