New Access Leaflet

New Access Leaflet

Rights of disabled people were put firmly on the agenda with the introduction of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.

Improving access to the built environment is, more often than not, a prerequisite to providing equal opportunities in employment and the provision of services. For this reason there have been fundamental changes in laws and regulations relating to access to buildings. Islington Council has a key role to play in implementing these, through its statutory planning, building control and licensing functions and as a highways authority.

To coincide with the International Day of the Disabled in December 2005, Islington Planning Division published the "Access and Inclusive Design - What’s New" leaflet. This explained the changes mentioned above and how the council will respond to them. It also gives advice on where to go for further information.

The leaflet can be downloaded in sections by clicking the links at the bottom of this page.
