Queensland Road

Queensland Road

We are consulting with residents on a planning application that we have received from Arsenal for Queensland Road.

The consultation is running from 9 October 2008 until 21 November 2008.

Here is a summary of the application:

  • Demolish existing buildings and redevelop the site, move the position of Queensland Road and develop one new building to the north and one to the south.
  • The building to the south would be up to six storeys high and provide 213 residential units and 345sqm of commercial space, with a mix of class A1 (shops), A2 (financial and professional services), A3 (restaurants and cafes), A4 (drinking establishments), B1 (business), D1 (non-residential) and D2 (leisure).
  • The building to the north would incorporate five towers providing 10 to 15 floors of residential accommodation above a plinth of mainly commercial space. It would comprise 516 residential units, 1,600sqm of sports centre for Arsenal Football Club and 1,140sqm of commercial space with a mix of class A1/A2/A3/A4/B1 as described above and 179 car parking spaces.

General Information

Islington Council welcomes your comments on the proposal. In its role as Local Planning Authority, we have a duty to consider whether what is proposed by Ashburton Trading Limited is acceptable or not.

The nature and scale of the scheme mean that a much more extensive consultation is being carried out than usual. The extended period of six weeks is to allow as many people as possible to view the plans and decide if they would like to make comments. We have written to local residents about the plans, put up site notices in the area and sent out press notices. As such a large scheme is likely to have a wide ranging impact, we want to hear from anyone who has a view, not only those who live nearby.

You can view a model of the proposal at the Central Library during the consultation period which illustrates the proposal more clearly.

If you have questions please contact us via the phone number or email address listed above. Please be aware that for comments to be taken into account they need to be in writing. Any comments must be based on valid planning reasons. For example, this would include size, scale or design, traffic, impact on privacy, daylight or other amenities. There are many other valid reasons, although please note that the impact the development might have on the value of a property or business competition is not a valid planning reason.

We will consider all comments received, whether for or against, before a recommendation is made. Please be aware that comments received will be placed on a file which is available for public inspection in accordance with the Local Government (Access to Information) Act 1985.

At this stage no decision has been made so now is your chance to play a part.
