
Islington Council has approved an education vision for its secondary schools. It has at its centre the needs of every child and sits at the heart of the council’s overarching vision of “One Islington” which is to have a place with thriving, active and cohesive communities.
Islington secondary schools have secured over £100 million from the Government’s ‘Building Schools for the Future’ fund. Alongside this programme, the council is supporting two Academy proposals, the first at the site of St Mary Magdalene Primary School and a second at Islington Green School. Every secondary school will be refurbished and some will be completely rebuilt, creating an opportunity for Islington to design and build the best possible learning environments, in order to deliver the education vision.
Islington Council has now received planning consent for the proposed redevelopment of the schools which are within the first phase of Islington’s ‘Schools for the Future’ initiative. These are:

It is expected that there will be three phases of development for Islington’s secondary schools, as set out below.
First Phase Schools - January 2008, construction commenced
Second Phase Schools - Planning applications submitted summer 2009
Third Phase Schools - July 2011 proposed commencement of construction
