Angel Town Centre

Angel Town Centre

A new strategy for the Angel was adopted on March 18 to provide a framework for future development within the town centre. The strategy looks to implement Islington's planning policies (set out in the UDP, see the link on the right) as well as London-wide policies set out in the newly adopted London Plan (see the link on the right). It also fits within the council's initiatives for One Islington and the A1 Borough.

The strategy has 5 sections:

  • Aims and objectives
This sets general principles all stakeholders in the town centre can support
  • An economic development strategy
This sets out the economic context for new development at the Angel. It encourages new retail, business and leisure/entertainment uses, and identifies sites for future development.
  • A section 106 strategy
Section 106 is a method of ensuring that new developments bring added benefits to the borough. The section contains the justification for asking for contributions from developers and a list of desirable projects which would contribute to a cleaner, safer, greener and more accessible town centre.
  • Management issues
This lists the various ways the Environment and Regeneration Department will improve its services within the town centre.
  • A table of projects
    Currently underway

Copies of the strategy can also be purchased from the Planning Division (Price £8 including postage and packing). Or download a copy of the Angel Town Centre Strategy by clicking the link at the bottom of this page.
