The Planning Section of Public Protection and Development Management Division is continually seeking to improve the service we provide. In doing so various areas of the service have been reviewed to ensure their effective delivery. As part of a review of pre-application advice, we have drawn comparisons with other London Boroughs, who deliver a similar pre-application process for planning applications. It is now proposed that as of 15 April 2008, a formal Pre-application Procedure will be introduced (in addition to the current procedure for major applications).
We will continue to offer free advice for small scale developments and householder applications, operating through the Duty Planner System (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday), but a charge will be associated with advice on certain development proposals (for example, larger extensions and proposals resulting in the increase in the numbers of dwellings). A charge of £587.50 (inclusive of VAT) will apply to these categories. This scheme of charging is operated under the Local Government Act 2003.
Details of how this service is operated are contained within the Guidance Note for Pre-application Advice (non-major applications). If you wish to discuss whether this service is right for you, please call the Duty Planning Officer via Contact Islington on 020 7527 2000.
