Noise from helicopters can be very disturbing. Unfortunately councils currently have no power to deal with noise from any aircraft, however the noise team continues to log all complaints and pass details on to the relevant bodies. The Greater London Authority has investigated helicopter noise in the Capital and published its report: London in a Spin, which you can download below. The report makes practical recommendations to the Government and the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to improve the management of helicopter traffic and reduce the environmental impact of helicopter noise. You can contact the CAA direct on 020 7453 6525.
Other organisations dealing with aircraft noise issues include the Airport Operators Association (020 7222 2249), the Aviation Environment Federation (020 7329 8159), the British Air Transport Association (020 7730 6931) and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) (020 7944 5494).
The council wants to know which noises you identify with Islington, which are your favourites and those that you really don't like. We also want to know where you go to find peace and quiet in the borough - do you visit a park or take solace in your home?
The survey runs from January 25th until the end of April. Your views will help the council format action plans regarding noise issues in the borough and will help with designating quiet areas. We thank you in advance for taking time to complete the survey.
This survey links to the Mayor of London's campaign to create peaceful, green havens for Londoners to escape the urban buzz of the city.
