Our Progress

Our Progress

Over 100 public, private and voluntary sector organisations have now signed up to the Partnership, all pledging to reduce their CO2 emissions by 15% over three years. Since our launch in March 2007, the Partnership has made excellent progress. Our achievements include:

  • Savings of 7,000 tonnes have been achieved by those members who took part in both the original baseline study in 2006-07 and the first year monitoring in 2007. This means that we are over a third of the way towards our target.

  • The Partnership now has over 100 members from universities and hospitals through to pubs, restaurants, churches and charities.

  • Over 60 organisations in the borough are receiving advice on how to reduce their CO2 emissions with the help of our free energy surveys.

Resident Work

Although our main focus has been on working with businesses, other initiatives include:

  • the installation of solar panels on seven vulnerable resident's homes

  • the Islington Climate Challenge whereby over 500 residents took steps to reduce energy consumption in their homes and when travelling

  • the Islington Light Bulb Exchange. Over 250 residents brought in their old light bulbs and swapped them for energy saving ones. Residents who are unable to fit bulbs themselves can have them fitted by calling 0800 953 1221or by emailing greenliving@islington.gov.uk

The Future

The Partnership will continue leading Islington's organisations towards reducing their emissions, offering support and incentives where possible. We have proved over the last year that whether we make small or significant changes, by working together we can make a big difference.
