Training and Qualifications

Training and Qualifications

Continuous professional development (CPD) is vital to ensure high quality early years services. Only through continual self-improvement can we help children and families reach their full potential.

Everyone working in early years has the opportunity to engage in training. Our central CPD programme offers a wide range of short courses for practitioners working at all levels in early years. It complements other aspects of our CPD programme such as:

  • register of Good Practice

  • local cluster meetings

  • qualification opportunities from Level 1 to Level 6

If you have any comments or suggestions about the CPD programme, please contact Allyson Pascoe on 020 7527 1818.

Identifying Training needs

All practitioners working in early years should have at least 4 days (18 hours) of appropriate training each year.

Managers and co-ordinators need to plan appropriate ongoing professional development with their staff. Using the six different elements of the KEEP framework ensures that practitioners develop effective practice in all the key areas.

In order to monitor the effectiveness of training, we ask all participants to complete an early years training action-planning sheet at the end of a course. Practitioners need the support of their manager or co-ordinator to agree the actions they have identified and put them into practice. The Early Years Foundation Stage team will monitor the progress of the action sheets.
