Islington Council

Secondary Schools

Although Islington is a small borough, there is a vast range of secondary school provision.

There are:

  • five community schools (three mixed and two all-girls)
  • one voluntary controlled school (boys)
  • two Catholic voluntary aided schools (one boys and one girls)
  • two academies (both mixed)

All Islington’s secondary schools offer education for students aged between 11 and 16 (school years 7 to 11, key stages 3 and 4). Students wishing to continue in education can then move to specialist provision within or outside the borough. Certain schools, however, work together to provide post-16 education, shared between their various sites.

Certain schools, however, work together in a consortium to provide post-16 education for pupils, shared between their various sites.

Additionally, each of the schools is a member of central government’s ‘specialist schools’ programme, and, although offering a full range of subjects, will have specialist status in one particular curriculum area.

Each school has a governing body, which is responsible for making sure that the school is run well, and that children learn successfully. Parents and carers regularly receive written reports telling them how their child is doing, and they also have opportunities to speak to their child's teacher or headteacher about these reports.

All secondary schools have a number of written policies, which lay out for parents and carers the school’s position on a range of important issues. Details for each individual school can be found in its own School Prospectus, or on its website.
