Youth Projects

Youth Projects

Detached projects work with young people who do not wish to go to a youth club or centre. Detached workers work in different areas of the borough, like on the Packington Estate or around Canonbury. These youth workers go out to meet young people wherever they are. Young people can then join in any activities the project can offer. This might be a trip out or a residential stay away, or taking part in a variety of sports activities or other projects.

Another example is The Islington Detached Team, who work with young people involved in or at risk of being involved in crime, or who have been excluded from school. The team also works with young refugees.

Special Projects

Special Projects provide specialist activities for young people, for example at the ‘EC1 Music Project’, young people can learn to play an instrument or develop their music skills. If they are interested in water sports they can visit the Islington Boat Club. The Venus Project provides health, sex and drugs education to all groups and can also offer one to one counselling.
