Childminders offer flexible care, either full or part-time. They are self-employed and provide care in their own homes. Childminders must register with Ofsted (the Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills), whose inspectors make regular checks on them and their home to ensure the children are safe. Childminders may look after up to six children under eight years old, but only three may be under five years old and usually only one child under 12 months old. To view inspection reports, see the link under Useful Websites on the right.

Looking for a childminder? You can meet local childminders at an informal 'stay and play plus' speed minding session. These sessions are held at a children's centre. Some sessions are on a Saturday morning. You will have the opportunity to meet childminders with vacancies and talk to them about services they offer.
If you are interested in using a childminder’s service you can then make an appointment to visit the childminder at home. Staff will be available if you have further questions about using childminders as a childcare option. Please download the flyer at the bottom of the page to find out about the next speed minding event.
For further information, you can call the Childminding Information Officer on 020 7527 5927.
