Selling to the Council

Selling to the Council

This section will give you information about selling goods, services and work to Islington Council. Details on specific areas can be found by clicking the relevant links on the left hand side of this page.

Council Structure

The council is divided into six departments:

  • Children's Services
  • Corporate Resources
  • Environment
  • Finance
  • Housing and Adult Social Services

We also oversee Homes for Islington, an organisation that has managed our rented and leasehold housing since 5 April 2004. We own Homes for Islington but it works as a separate organisation and is responsible for its own contracts. For more information, click on the Homes for Islington link on the right, under Useful Websites.

Procurement

Our procurement unit helps all council departments to buy in works, goods and services. The way we buy goods, services and works is set out in our procurement code. To view a copy of the code, click on the How we Buy Goods and Services link under the main navigation list, on the left side of this page.

This code provides a framework for procuring (buying in) goods, services and works. It aims to make sure that we get value for money and spend our money properly.

One Islington

We are committed to One Islington and the four main priorities of:

  • Listening to Islington’ – listening to what local people want, proactively improving services based on what we hear and feeding back to people to find out if we have got it right

  • Stronger communities – improving the quality of life of all residents and reducing the gap in life chances between the most and the least deprived

  • A greener, cleaner and safer borough – improving the quality of Islington’s environment by making it a safe and enjoyable place to be for all communities.

Awarding Contracts

Decisions on awarding contracts are among the most important decisions a manager will have to make. The contracts we award should support our commitment to sustainability, be ethical (morally correct) and support equal opportunities.

Individual council departments are responsible for their own purchasing activities, except where we award corporate contracts.

We have awarded the following corporate contracts:

  • washroom services
  • supply of temporary workers
  • building security service
  • stationery
  • paper
  • photocopier
  • computers and printer
  • furniture
  • building cleaning service
  • bottled water
  • recruitment advertising

For information on up-and-coming contracts, click on the Procurement Opportunities link on the right, under Related Information.
