Islington Council's new chief executive is Lesley Seary. Lesley comes to the council from Lewisham Council where she was executive director for customer services. She starts in her new role on 2 June 2011. Upon her appointment, Lesley said "I'm determined to progress the task already started to narrow the gap between rich and poor and make Islington a fairer place for those who live and work here. There is a lot of important work to do to improve the lives of residents, and I'm looking forward to getting started."

Lesley replaces John Foster CBE who retired at the end of May 2011 after three years as Chief Executive at Islington Council and over 40 years’ service to local government.
