The Data Protection Act 1998 was introduced to protect personal data about you by setting rules and conditions which all users, such as Islington Council (the Act calls us Data Controllers) must obey when obtaining and using information about you. The Act also provides you with certain rights, which the data controllers must respect.
If you wish to make a request to receive information held about you by Islington Council you will need to write to us providing your name and address and any other details that could help us find your information. This request is called a Subject Access Request. There are various circumstances where information may be withheld, in which case this will be explained to you.
You will need to fill out an access request form. This is available by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. A fee of £10 needs to be sent to the address below, with your completed form to see your records. This must be a cheque made payable to "Islington Borough Council"

Using your information in this way allows us to deliver more efficient services that can be tailored to your individual needs and preferences. All personal information is held in strict confidence.
We are required under Section 6 of the Audit Commission Act 1998 to participate in the National Fraud Initiative data matching exercise. The data held by Islington Council will be used for cross-system and cross authority comparison for the prevention and detection of fraud.
