Under current legislation, the registration officer has to sell copies of the full register to any Credit Reference agency that requests one, and the regulations determine the price charged, £20 plus £1.50 per 1000 names as a data file.
The three main credit agencies, Call Credit, Equifax and Experian, all purchase the lists when published in December and also receive the monthly alteration lists.
However it can take some time for their records to be updated, but providing you are registered, the electoral services team can provide you with a letter to confirm that you are registered. As this is not connected with elections or voting, we will charge £10 for each letter.
Previous registers cannot be changed, even if you can prove that you were living at an address but were not registered there.
The edited register can be sold to any one for any reason. The price for the edited register is worked out on the same basis as for a full register. Paper copies can be sold for £10 plus £5 per 1000 names.
