Eligible Nationalities

Eligible Nationalities

For a full list of eligible nationalities for voting, download the Eligible Nationalities document at the bottom of this page.

Citizens of the states listed must register as electors, but can choose whether or not to vote at the time of an election.

European Union member state citizens are not entitled to vote at Parliamentary elections, and can only vote in European elections if a separate declaration is completed.

Citizens of Republic of Ireland, Cyprus and Malta are entitled to vote at all elections, being commonwealth citizens. All Cypriots may register and vote in all elections. Citizens from Turkish Northern Cyprus must register and can vote even though they could describe themselves as being Turkish. Northern Cyprus is not recognised internationally, and they remain Cypriot (and therefore British Commonwealth) citizens.
