How Do I Pay?

There are several methods you can use to pay your council tax.

Direct Debit

Direct debit is an easy, practical method of paying your council tax.

Paying by direct debit ensures that your payments are received on time. There is no queuing, paperwork, cheques or postage. You can choose one of four payment dates and spread the bill across the year.

Furthermore, by setting up a direct debit you will receive a £20 direct debit discount!

Online Payment

You can pay for your council tax using this website, using your debit card.

For further information, click on Pay It on the right under Do It Online.

Alternatively you can call 020 7527 8000 and quote your bank details and eight-digit council tax reference number to make an online payment.

Telephone Banking

If you use a telephone banking service, please make sure you quote the council's bank account number (61282692) and sort code (08-90-33), together with your eight-digit council tax account number (no spaces).

Please note that this account number and sort code is for council tax payments only. It should not be used for any other council charge.

In Person at Municipal Offices

To make a payment in person (cheque or debit card only) you can visit:

Credit Transfer at any Bank or Post Office

Just complete the payment slip and hand it to the bank or Post Office cashier with your payment.

Banks may charge you a fee if you don't pay through the branch which has your account.

Cheques and Postal Orders by Post

Cheques should be crossed and made out to ‘London Borough of Islington’ and 'account payee only'. Please ensure that you put your council tax account number on the back of your cheque.

We cannot accept post-dated cheques. We do not accept cash sent by post.
