Islington Council is continuing the £100 council tax discount for households where the taxpayer, or their partner, was 65 or over on 1 April 2011. In addition to this, the tax payer needed to be an Islington resident on the 1 April 2011 to be able to make a claim.
The discount is only available to older people who are legally responsible for and have to pay council tax at their property. It is not available to older people who receive a Council Tax Benefit unless this is less than £100 for the full year, in which case the amount will be made up to £100 in total.
Most eligible households will receive the discount automatically, in which case the discount will be shown on your council tax bill. However, there will be a small number of eligible households where we do not have the necessary information to pay the discount automatically. If you think you may be eligible for the discount but it’s not shown on your most recent bill, please check that you meet the eligibility criteria above and contact us on 020 7527 2633.
How to apply
If you haven't automatically received your discount, which appears on your most recent council tax bill, please call 020 7527 2633 (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm). Make sure you have your council tax account number ready when you call (it's on the top right hand corner of your bill.)
You will be asked a few questions to process your claim and in some cases, we may ask you to send us copies of documents to support the application.
Once your discount is approved, you will be sent a letter showing your new council tax payment plan.
