What do we do?

We have several teams within our service and provide a range of services to other council service areas, as well as minding a number of corporate financial budgets. The service employs approximately 500 staff, based at various sites across the borough. Below are just a few of the services we provide:

• Accountancy - We provide accountancy services and financial advice for the council's service areas. Tel: 020 7527 34.
• Audit - We undertake audits of many of the council's services and provide help and guidance. Tel: 020 7527 2694.
• Corporate Finance and Capital Accounts - We provide strategic financial advice and corporate accountancy services (including capital accountancy), control of the budget process, compiling accounts and setting and maintaining finance standards. Tel: 020 7527 2863.
• Insurance - We are responsible for the strategic direction and policy management of the council's insurance fund and insurable risks. Tel: 020 7527 2566.
• Housing Benefits – responsible for the delivery of the council’s housing benefit service. Delivering the benefits fraud service and client for the Serco IT services contract. Tel: 020 7527 4990.
• Income - We collect payments owed to the council for sundry charge invoices (i.e. where the account number starts SD). Tel: 020 7527 2236.
• Payroll and Pensions - We make sure that all of our staff past and present receive their money. Tel: 020 7527 2160.
• Revenue Services - We are responsible for the collection of various types of revenue: miscellaneous income, council tax, business rates and residual poll tax. Tel: 020 7527 2707.
• Pension Fund and Risk Management - We manage the council's loans and cash flow, as well as the management of the pension fund investments and administration of pension benefits. Tel: 020 7527 2382.
• Procurement - Ensure all the council's procurements are on track to help achieve the Council's One Islington vision and provide information, advice and share good practice between departments. Tel: 020 7527 3131.
• Property Services - Effectively manage the commercial and operational properties that the Council owns. By doing this, Property Services helps to improve the service delivered to Islington residents and businesses and also helps the Council achieve its corporate priorities.' Tel: 020 7527 2861.
