Extended hours open a new chapter for Islington library

Date: 16-Mar-10 by Chris Roe

Lovers of books and DVDs will have something to celebrate next month as Islington's South Library opens for an extra four hours on Friday afternoons.

From Friday 16 April the library in Essex Road, N1, will open from 9.30am-5pm. It currently closes at 1pm on Fridays. The extra opening hours have been made possible by streamlining back-office work.

Cllr Ruth Polling, Islington Council's executive member for leisure and equalities, said: "Libraries are very important to residents and I'm very pleased we're able to open South Library for longer on Fridays from 16 April.

"It give people a bit more time to borrow or return books and DVDs ahead of the weekend, or to use the computers. Now it's easier than ever to use South Library."

From April 16 South Library's full opening hours will be: Monday 9:30am to 8pm; Tuesday 9:30am to 5pm; Wednesday closed; Thursday 9:30am to 8pm; Friday 9:30am to 5pm; Saturday 9:30am to 5pm; Sunday closed.
