Comedian and writer Charlie Higson took the question master's chair in a quiz to find Islington's Young Consumers of the Year.

Ten teams from Central Foundation School for Boys, St Aloysius' RC College, Islington Police Cadets, and Mount Carmel RC School for Girls lined up for the challenging competition.

The contest, run by Islington Council's trading standards team, ties in with the National Curriculum and helps teach teenagers about consumer rights, money and finance, health safety and the environment.

A nail-biting competition at Emirates Stadium was won by Central Foundation's sixth form team, with their year 10 team closely second, and a police cadet team third.

Cllr Greg Foxsmith, Islington Council's executive member for environment, said: "Our Trading Standards officers work all year round to make sure people in Islington don't lose out.

"This contest helps make sure young people know their rights, and it’s impressive how much they know.

"Thanks to Charlie Higson for agreeing to help, and well done to everyone took part."

The winners will now represent Islington at the London Regional Final of the contest, which is organised nationally by the Trading Standards Institute, at City Hall on March 26.

They will be joined by the third-placed team, because only one team from each school or group can compete in the final.
