Young role models, volunteers and entrepreneurs were amongst those congratulated at the Mayor's Youth Awards this week.
The achievements of young people across the borough were recognised at an event held at the Emirates Stadium, with eight awards handed out by Mayor of Islington, Cllr Anna Berent. Categories included Best Young Role Model, Young Achiever in Education and Unsung Young Hero of the Community.
Over 20 nominations were received from the local community and staff working within Islington's children's services and other organisations. The criteria for nominations included demonstrating how a young person or group has proactively supported the interests of young people in the borough and gone the extra mile to help others.
Islington Council's executive member for children and young people, Cllr Paula Belford said:
"It's fantastic to be able to celebrate inspiring young people from Islington in this way. All of those nominated and awarded have shown a real commitment to making a positive difference to their own lives or those of their peers - whether it be through individual educational achievement, being part of a youth group or demonstrating impressive leadership skills.
"Congratulations to all the winners and thanks also to those who took time out to nominate them."
Entertainment was laid on throughout the evening, with a range of performances by young people including local youth groups Tashan and Amberleigh. Guests were also treated to a performance by hip hop artist Sway, a previous winner of Best Hip Hop Act at the MOBOS.
The evening ended with a special tour around the Emirates stadium for the young people nominated and awarded and their guests.
