More jobs are in the pipeline for Islington’s young people, after the borough secured £1.8million of government funding.
167 new work opportunities will be created by next March, with money from the Future Jobs Fund.
The council is working with the charity Groundwork and other local organisations to create the jobs.
Councillor Lucy Watt, Executive Member for Communities, Skills and Business, said: “We want to do everything we can to help people who are out of work, and part of the reason we’ve received this money is in recognition of the good work we’re already doing.
"As well as these roles for young people, which will provide really valuable training and work experience, we’ll also be offering more apprenticeships in the coming year.”
New jobs will include roles at arts and community organisations, work in children’s and adult social care and horticultural jobs.
Each job will last at least six months and will provide valuable work experience and training.
For every new job, the fund will provide £6,500 to help cover wages, training and support. The new roles will pay the London Living Wage of £7.60 per hour, for a 25 hour week – a better rate than many other boroughs taking part in the scheme.
People who are under 25 and have been out of work for 10 months, and are on Jobseekers’ Allowance, could be eligible. For more information call 020 7527 4486 or email Islingtonworking@islington.gov.uk
