Council provides support on results day

Date: 03-Aug-09 by Caroline Horrocks

Islington Council is ensuring young people have easy access to support and guidance when they receive their GCSE and A-level results later this month.

The Connexions Personal Advisers - part of the council's children's services team - will be in schools and colleges on result days to provide information and advice on the options open to young people post GCSE and A-levels. Young people can use the service to find out more about college courses, work-based learning, training and job opportunities and full-time further education.

Councillor Paula Belford, Islington Council's Executive Member for Children and Young People, said:

"Moving on from school and college can be incredibly daunting, but there are so many different choices available to young people. The advice isn't just for those who haven't got the grades they'd hoped for, it's also for those who have done better than they expected and might want to reconsider their options.

"It's really important that young people have access to straightforward advice that will help them make the best decisions about their futures - whether that's in further education, training or employment."

The Connexions advisers will be setting up at various locations across the borough between 20 August and 1 September and will be on hand at all of the City & Islington College sites between 28 August and 4 September. Advice is also available by calling the Connexions team at the White Lion Centre on 020 7527 7031.
