Islington has gone all out to lift residents’ spirits and defend its London in Bloom title with more than 1000 floral displays on show across the borough.
Hundreds of hanging baskets, barrier and tree planters, window boxes and flower towers have been installed, adding a splash of colour to the borough’s streets.
In fact, the number of displays on show in Islington is bigger than ever.
Cllr Ruth Polling, Islington Council's Executive Member for Leisure and Equalities, said: “Last year, hundreds of residents told us that hanging baskets brightened their day and made a real difference to how they felt about Islington.
“I’m so pleased we’ve been able to up the ante this year to ensure even more residents will benefit.
“As an inner-city borough, we work very hard to make the most of our valued but limited greenspace. These colourful displays bring a little bit of our parks out into the street and brighten all of our lives.”
The delightful displays, which include purple petunias, yellow bidens and pink geraniums, will also boost Islington’s chances when Britain in Bloom is judged in August.
Last year, Islington became the first non-Royal inner-city borough to win London in Bloom and will now represent the capital at the national competition.
With almost double the number of baskets, Islington is sure to look fantastic for both residents and judges this summer.
Islington’s floral displays will stay until September.
