Residents will benefit from a summer calendar jam-packed with fantastic community festivals thanks to funding from Islington Council.
A number of community groups across the borough have shared in almost £12,000 of funding aimed at building community spirit through family-friendly activities.
Together, 22 festivals will boast an exciting mix of entertainment and activities covering arts, culture, health, food, community and much more.
Cllr Ruth Polling, Executive Member for Leisure and Equalities, said: “I urge residents to spend a little time at the wonderful festivals taking place in Islington this summer.
“It’s a great opportunity for local residents to get together, meet each other and share some of the wonderful activities on offer.
“There’s so much to see and experience. No matter what your interests, there really is something for everyone.”
As well as providing funding, the council offered guidance during the application process and advice on licensing and budgets.
The council will also provide event support, including outdoor venues and some staffing such as park rangers, to help everyone involved have a great festival.
The schedule kicks off on Wednesday 17 June with Cubitt Art Gallery’s Midsummer Mysteries – a ten-day celebration of art, theatre and music held at venues across the borough.
From 18 to 25 June, events planned to celebrate Refugee Week will keep the ball rolling while the Islington Dance Festival, Holloway Arts Festival, Little Angel Theatre Summer Party, Amwell Village Fete and the Feelgood Festival are just a few of the other events on the agenda.
Cllr Polling said: “None of these events would be possible without the efforts of community groups and volunteer organisers.
“Thank you to all the volunteers who make these events happen and I hope they get a great turnout from other residents.”
The festivals take place through until October.
