Islington Mayor Anna Berent will be the guest of honour at the London Farmers’ Markets’ tenth anniversary celebrations on Saturday.
To be held at Islington Green, the Farmers’ Market Picnic will combine fete-style sideshows with plenty of farmers’ market goodies.
Cllr Berent, who was elected Mayor last month, said: “The Farmers’ Market is a wonderful attraction and has been serving the Islington community for a decade.
“I’m sure Saturday’s celebrations will be a fantastic, family-friendly way to spend a few hours and I look forward to joining in the fun.”
The special event is a chance for residents and visitors to get a taste of the weekly Farmer’s Markets, held each Sunday at William Tyndale School behind Islington Town Hall on Upper Street, N1.
Market traders will offer a wide range of award-winning and hard-to-find produce, including delightfully aromatic herbs, scrumptious fruit and vegetables, glorious plants and bulbs, and sustainable hot and cold food.
Traditional fairground games will also be a highlight while visitors are encouraged to bring along a plant or home-made food to take part in the barter stalls.
The event will run from 11am to 4pm.
Proceeds will go to the Mayor’s Charities, Room2Heal and The Medical Foundation for the Victims of Torture.
