Good marks for Islington school

Another Islington school has impressed Government inspectors, with staff commitment and student enthusiasm leading to a strong Ofsted report.

Newington Green Primary was highly praised for providing ‘outstanding care for the diverse range of pupils’ who ‘clearly enjoy learning, behave well and speak with pride about the school’.

The curriculum, education standards, student well-being and staff leadership were all highlighted as strengths of the ever-improving school.

Inspectors described the pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as ‘outstanding’ while acknowledging the school’s exceptional contribution to community cohesion.

Staff were also applauded and dubbed one of the ‘main strengths of the school’.

Headteacher Yve Reynolds, who was praised alongside deputy headteacher Mairead McDonnell for her ‘commitment and enthusiasm’ said: "I am so very proud of our achievement. This excellent report is the result of the sterling work my talented and dedicated team delivers each and every day. I know the children and parents of Newington Green Primary appreciate just how fortunate they are to be part of our wonderful school."

Inspectors noted pupils feel safe and supported at Newington Green and speak highly of their school. They are ‘encouraged to take pride in themselves and all they do and become confident learners’.

The wide-range of student needs are catered for and ‘a good variety of exciting activities and experiences…gives pupils a lot to talk, think and write about’.

Director of Children’s Services at Islington Council, Eleanor Schooling said:

“Newington Green Primary School staff, parents and children should be very proud of such wonderful feedback. They all work very hard and certainly deserve this recognition. The report also indicates room for improvement and I know everyone involved will be working hard to ensure even better results next time.”
