LOCAL residents and book fans are invited to meet an author whose first novel begins with nights spent along Islington's Holloway Road.
Andrew Blackman won a publishing deal for his book On The Holloway Road, which follows two young men on a modern-day road trip that begins on the north Islington street.
And at 6.30pm on Tuesday 16 June he is reading and talking about his writing in a free evening at North Library in Manor Gardens - just round the corner from where the book is set.
Andrew said: "For the two main characters in my book, the Holloway Road is a place of escape: first through long nights at pubs and parties up and down the Holloway Road, and then by jumping in their car and following the road as far as it goes, a journey which takes them all the way to Scotland.
"I hope that readers who live in the area will recognise my descriptions of it, but will also perhaps see the Holloway Road in a way they've never seen it before."
Cllr Ruth Polling, Islington Council's Executive Member for Leisure and Equalities, said: "It's not every day a book gets set in your street and this is a great chance for people to come and meet the writer.
"Our libraries offer all sorts of activities for young and old alike, and I'm very pleased Andrew has agreed to this special event as part of our libraries programme."
To book a place call 020 7527 7840. Refreshments are included.
The talk is part of Story of London, a month-long festival of history, art and culture telling the city's past, present and future.
