Islington Elects New Leader

Islington Council elected Cllr Terry Stacy as its new leader at last night’s annual council meeting (Thursday 14 May 2009).

Cllr Stacy has been ward councillor for Highbury East since 2002 and Deputy Leader since 2006. He will head up an eight-strong Executive of Liberal Democrat councillors.

He replaces Cllr James Kempton who stood down from the role citing personal factors.

At the same meeting, 82-year-old Cllr Anna Berent was elected as the new Mayor of Islington, taking over from Cllr Stefan Kasprzyk.
