An Islington school where pupil behaviour and attendance wowed Government inspectors, has been rated as ‘outstanding’ in every category by Ofsted.
The academic achievements, high attendance and behaviour of pupils at St Joseph's Primary School were particularly praised, along with the leadership skills amongst all levels of staff.
Pupils at St Joseph's follow in the successful footsteps of Islington's first Polish Mayor Councillor Stefan Kasprzyk, who attended the school as a youngster.
Inspectors reported that current pupils at the school progress well. By the end of their final year, ‘the vast majority of pupils surpass national expectations, achieving consistently high standards in English, mathematics and science.’
These high standards are due in part to the quality of teaching at the school. Pupils look forward to their classes and ‘talk enthusiastically about their learning’ and the teachers provide a ‘vibrant and stimulating curriculum'.
Head of St Joseph’s Don Leavy, was described by Ofsted as being part of an 'excellent leadership' team. He said:
"We all know St Joseph’s is an outstanding school; it’s just great to receive public recognition. It’s a tribute to the partnership between Governors, parents and teachers who want to give the best to the wonderful children at the school."
Pupil behaviour at St Joseph’s is ‘exemplary’ and Ofsted told the children ‘you are a credit to yourselves, your families and your school’. St Joseph’s pupils enjoy coming to school and this is ‘clearly reflected in their attendance, which is very high.’
The wide-ranging mix of cultures and faiths represented at St Joseph’s is ‘warmly celebrated and promoted’ and this means that ‘the spiritual, moral, social and emotional aspects of pupils' development are outstanding.’
Director of Children’s Services at Islington Council, Eleanor Schooling said:
“Well done St. Joseph’s! This is really fantastic feedback and thoroughly deserved. The school staff, Governors and parents really work hard to make the school a place where children enjoy spending time and look forward to learning.”
Ofsted concluded that St Joseph’s shows ‘a real commitment to ensure that every individual really matters’ and also has an ‘outstanding capacity to improve further.’
