Islington Council

Still time to take part in Islington's Housing Allocation Policy Consultation

Date: 07-May-09 by Charles Dean

With two weeks left to run in Islington's Housing Allocation Policy Consultation, Islington Council is calling on council tenants to make sure they have their say.

In April, Islington Council mailed over 20,000 tenants to ask what they thought about changing the points weighting - the system by which the Council allocates housing.

Despite the council working with its partners to increase the supply of new homes, demand for housing in the borough greatly exceeds supply. So Islington Council wants to make sure that any priority housing system benefits those in greatest need and is fair and transparent.

Sean McLaughlin, Islington Council's Corporate Director of Housing and Adult Social Care said:

"We're proposing changes to the way we allocate housing points to make the system fairer and give those in greatest need a better chance of finding an Islington home and one that best suits their current and future needs."

Council tenants can take part in the Housing Allocation Policy Consultation by picking up a form in their area housing office, local library or downloading one online at www.islington.gov.uk/consultation

Completed forms should be returned by 20 May 2009.
