Islington Council is calling on the 140,000 residents entitled to vote in June's European Parliamentary Elections to use their ballot.
Islington is part of the London Region for the European Parliament, which will elect eight Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).
Polling Day is Thursday 4 June 2009, Islington Council will open 89 polling stations across the borough in schools and community centres.
Cllr Terry Stacy, Executive Member for Communities said:
"The European Parliament has a big influence on the lives of EU citizens, whether you realise it or not, so it's important we all have our say.
"We're making sure people are registered to vote and we've publicised the Euro Elections. The rest is up to Islington. Please use your vote."
Council staff have been running a co-ordinated campaign in recent years to get people on the electoral register. Council teams of canvassers have been door knocking areas with low voter registration and at the same time advertising has gone up on lamp-posts, in bus shelters and at local cinemas.
The effort has been credited with raising the percentage of people registered to vote in all elections.
Residents must renew their registration every year to be certain of being able to vote in local Council, national and European Parliamentary Elections.
This month, unregistered voters were reminded of the 19 May deadline for registering to vote in 4 June's European Parliamentary Elections.
All British, other Commonwealth and European Union member state citizens can register to vote. European Union citizens can vote in Islington at the elections but they need to complete the European Elector Application (UC1) Form. This can be downloaded from the Islington Council website.
For more information, residents should call Islington Electoral Services on 020 7527 3110 or visit www.islington.gov.uk/voting
