PEOPLE in Finsbury Park have voted to spend £28,000 on valuable extra work with local young people in the ward.
In Islington Council People's Project - the first of its kind - residents were asked to choose one of three local worthy causes to receive extra money.
The winners, with 54 per cent of the 136 votes cast, were today revealed as Islington Somali Community and St Marks Church.
They will spend the money working with young people on estates, running activities and trips and tackling anti-social behaviour.
Also in the running for the cash were The Whittaker Centre and the Pilion Trust, who work with local street drinkers, and CASA Family Service, which works with families affected by drug and alcohol abuse.
Cllr Terry Stacy, Islington Council's Executive Member for Community Safety, said: "All these projects are supported by the council and do very good work in Finsbury Park ward to improve community safety.
"Any would have been worthy winners, and I'm sure the Islington Somali Community and St Marks Church will put the money to good use.
"I'm very glad residents told us how they wanted the money to be spent and their votes will make a very real difference."
The project was jointly funded by the Home Office, the Local Area Agreement and Islington Council.
