Islington Council

International Women’s Day - 8 March

Date: 03-Feb-09 by Charles Dean

Islington Council is supporting International Women's Day on March 8 which this year sees a London-wide march for equality and opposing violence. Women's and community groups from across the Borough will be attending the March to show their support.

Cllr Ruth Polling, Executive Member for Equalities, Islington Council said:

"Despite the equalities progress the Council has made in Islington, many women in the borough still have to struggle to participate in society on an equal footing with men. Women still face inequality when it comes to pay, access to services and in their personal security. That is why this March is so important and I am delighted that women from across the Borough will be taking part.

"The Council works on equalities issues all year round - everything from helping female staff to progress in their careers to our community-based services that help women who are in violent relationships. We are determined that everyone regardless of their gender should have an equal chance in life to achieve their potential and will continue to work towards this."
