Islington Council is deploying all available resources to keep local streets as safe and accessible as possible after 5 inches of snowfall.
All routes in Islington were gritted at 2pm and 8pm on Sunday (1 February) and today gritting of footways and carriageways started at 6am and is continuing throughout the day. Over 100 staff and four gritting machines have been activated.
While the council's cleansing staff have been deployed to grit the borough’s roads and pavements there are no refuse and recycling collections today.
No parking tickets will be issued today, unless vehicles are causing an obstruction or presenting a danger to others.
Many of the borough's schools have been closed - full details can be found on the council's website at www.islington.gov.uk
All of Islington's leisure centres are operating a normal service despite the bad weather conditions, but will be closing at 4pm today. For contact details of your local leisure centre visit the Aquaterra website www.aquaterra.org
All of Islington's libraries are currently open, but may be subject to early closure this evening. Please check with your local library. Unfortunately this evening’s LGBT event at Central Library has been cancelled.
Tonight's meeting of the East Area Planning-Sub Committee is cancelled.
