Islington Council imposes tough conditions on Dust bar

STRICT new conditions have been added to Dust bar in Clerkenwell following a shooting near the premises last month.<br>Islington Council suspended Dust's licence on September 22 at the request of Islington Police, after the incident on September 20.<br>The bar has now reopened but Islington Council's licensing committee has imposed extra conditions for Dust's licence including:<br><br>* CCTV to be installed inside and outside the premises, and run in consultation with police. Signs advertising the CCTV must also be displayed.<br>* Except with written approval of police, during entertainment by a DJ or live music everyone visiting the premises - including DJs - will be searched with electronic handheld wands.<br>* The police are to be given two weeks' notice of functions being held at the bar.<br><br>Cllr Donna Boffa, chair of the Islington Council Licensing Committee which heard the licensing review, said: "The club had a very good record until this incident and its owner has cooperated fully with the new conditions.<br>"The police are also happy with the conditions and we believe this is the right approach to take."
