A young electrician has been speaking of her bright career ahead, after landing her dream job through an Islington Council scheme. <br><br>Lucy Game spent several years working with animals before switching to her new role in the construction industry. <br><br>The 24-year-old secured an eight-week placement with Ardmore Construction in March through the council's "Construction Works" programme. <br><br>Lucy said: "I was always interested in construction and things like electrics and carpentry. With wiring, you've always got to get it right because lives could depend on it. <br><br>"My job is basically to solve electrical problems, which can be a bit like the 'Krypton Factor', but this really tests the mind and is incredibly rewarding. <br><br>"I started off doing work experience. So, when they told me they'd give me a job, I just cried to be honest! It was the career I'd always dreamed of." <br><br>Cllr Lucy Watt, Islington Council's Executive Member for Skills and Business, said: "Even in difficult economic times there is an ongoing demand for construction workers in London, and our Construction Works programme gives local people the opportunity to get into these jobs. <br><br>"Lucy is a real role model and I hope others will be motivated by what they see and will contact the council if they are looking for similar work." <br><br>Lucy Game secured her placement, and subsequent job, with Ardmore Construction who have been declared "Construction Employer of the Year 2008" by Islington Council. The company has supported 33 trainees with work placement, eight of whom have gone on to get jobs with the firm. Another nine trainees have secured careers in the industry. <br><br>Islington Council runs its Construction Works placement programme with the help of funding from the London Development Agency and the Islington Strategic Partnership. <br><br>Over the past 3 years of the project has worked with more than a thousand people.
