Users and staff from Islington's Daylight Resource Centre will show off their talents in a modern reworking of hit West End musical 'Grease' at the Lillian Baylis Theatre tonight, Thursday 18 September.<br><br>20 adults with learning disabilities or complex needs and 9 staff at the day centre in Highbury, N5, have been in rehearsals since April to perfect their performances. The show features 10 choreographed songs from the show and a recreation of Danny's dream machine 'Greased Lightnin''.<br><br>An additional 15 service users have been involved with making props and costumes for the 90 minute performance. <br><br>Eddie Hughes, Team Leader at Daylight Resource Centre said: "We've got a great little theatre for our show and users and staff have put in so much hard work since the spring to get the show up and running.<br><br>"We wanted this venue because it's one of the most famous in London - and the theatre staff have been great. I've never done anything like this before"<br><br>Confirmation that Islington Council's Daylight Resource Centre is providing good care for residents with autism came from the National Autistic Society (NAS) in January 2008.<br><br>The NAS has praised the Centre's Autism Unit for their dedication, commitment and expertise at a time when there are no national standards for care delivered via day services.<br><br>As well as clients with autism, the centre based at Highbury Grove, N5, welcomes other clients with learning difficulties and complex needs.<br><br>The Centre also provides a sandwich service to hungry office workers in the council's offices in Goswell Road and at Islington's Learning Partnership building on Lowther Rd, N7.<br><br>Cllr John Gilbert, Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health, Islington Council said:<br><br>"Daylight provide a first class service - day centre users enjoy stimulating care and activity programmes, like this theatre project.<br><br>"I am delighted with this achievement - it's just one of the reasons care services in Islington are winning us a reputation for being one of the most innovative and excellent authorities in the UK."<br><br>ENDS
