Excitement mounts ahead of Gillespie Park Community Festival

One of Islington's premier parks is poised to host its annual festival – which promises to be bigger and better than ever before. <br><br>The 22nd Gillespie Park Community Festival, on Sunday 14th September, will showcase hidden talent in the borough. <br><br>Acts range from Baltic folk music, to performances from schoolchildren and Morris dancers. <br><br>Pat Tuson, one of the Friends of Gillespie Park and joint organiser of this year's festival, said: "This really is something that the whole community looks forward to. <br><br>"Even people who have moved away from Islington come back just for the festival to reunite with old friends and get introduced to new ones. It's a fantastic day enjoyed by the whole family."<br><br>Cllr Ruth Polling, Islington Council's Executive Member for Leisure, said: "I am delighted that Islington Council is supporting the Gillespie Park Community festival which is such a fantastic event for the local community. Events like this really bring people together. Gillespie Park is a lovely open space and it will be great to have so many people using and enjoying it this Sunday. "<br><br>Younger people in the audience will have plenty to keep them occupied with drumming workshops, West African storytelling, music and face painting. <br><br>As with each year, local charities and organisations will be in attendance with well-stocked stalls. Fantastic food will be available as well as the opportunity to take a closer look at the park itself with members of the Islington Nature Conservation Team. <br><br>The Gillespie Park Community Festival kicks off Sunday 14th September from 2 – 6pm. <br><br>ENDS <br><br>For more information please call Chris Weeks on 020 7527 3032
