On your marks, get set … read! It's time for the 2008 Summer Reading Challenge

Date: 26-Jun-08 by Chris Roe

CHILDREN are being invited to get active and get reading this summer with Team Read - the 2008 Summer Reading Challenge, with a sports theme.

Young readers who register for the challenge are given rewards depending on the number of books they read over the summer holidays. After three books their parent or guardian can rent a DVD free of charge, and after six books they can rent another free DVD. All the children taking part will also be given other goodies and the chance to win a Reading Challenge duffel bag.

Councillor Ruth Polling, Islington Council's Executive Member for Leisure and Equalities, said: "The long summer holidays are a perfect time to get stuck into books, especially in this National Year of Reading. Now there's even more reason for children to pay a visit to their local library and enjoy some of the books on offer."

ENDS.
