Islington's new environment chief has pledged to place cycling high up the agenda - as scores of residents in the borough celebrate National Bike Week. <br><br>Cllr Greg Foxsmith, Islington Council's Executive Member for Environment, dropped into Spa Fields, EC1, where crowds of cyclists tried out machines and got advice on bike security. <br><br>Greg said: "This event shows that cycling's loads of fun and healthy too - but, as a rider myself, I know that more and more people are using it as a serious form of transport to get to work or school. <br><br>"We've already come a long way in Islington with better cycle lanes and secure bike parking, including outside Tube stations for commuters. <br><br>"In my new role as environment councillor I'm going to make sure this continues as, together, we work towards becoming the most environmentally-friendly borough in London."<br><br>Bike Week, from 14-22 June, is an annual event to promote cycling.
