Daylight celebrates midsummer

Islington Council's Daylight Resource Centre celebrates midsummer with a party on Friday 27 June at 6pm. <br><br>As well as clients with autism, the day centre based at Highbury Grove, N5, welcomes those with learning difficulties and complex needs. Friday's party will feature a DJ and live band.<br><br>Cllr John Gilbert, Islington Council's Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Health, said:<br><br>"Staff at Daylight provide a first class service that's appreciated by users and their families. At the midsummer party, we'll be celebrating their recent recognition by the National Autistic Society and the achievements of all staff and clients.<br><br>"I am particularly proud of the way the centre works to provide a stimulating programme including art and music - it's an environment where good practice flourishes and service users receive the highest possible standards of care."<br><br>Activities provided at the day centre include acting, singing and dancing - the centre is preparing to stage the hit West End musical 'Grease' in September -complete with authentic 50's costumes and a life-size car.<br><br>Daylight clients are also involved in a social enterprise to feed hungry workers in local offices - providing a tasty, fresh and nutritious lunchtime sandwich service for busy staff in council offices and day care centres in Lowther Road and Camden Road, N7, Islington Park Street, N1 and Goswell Road, EC1.<br><br>Last month, confirmation that Islington Council's Daylight Resource Centre is providing good care for residents with autism came from the National Autistic Society (NAS).<br><br>The NAS has praised the Centre's Autism Unit for their dedication, commitment and expertise at a time when there are no national standards for care delivered via day services.<br><br>At Daylight, staff are involved hands-on in designing and implementing stimulating care and activity programmes for clients. Through the NAS's own monitoring, the service has been thoroughly scrutinised and approved.<br><br><br>ENDS
